Your Work At Home Journey Begins

When it comes to building a successful career as a telecommuter, there seems to be a thousand gimmicks or misleading offers, for every single legitimate opportunity that you find.

However, as someone who has worked successfully online for more than 12 years, I’m here to tell you that not only are there plenty of legitimate opportunities online, but that you can create a full time income that will give you the flexibility and financial freedom that you’ve been searching for.

When I first started my work at home journey, I encountered my share of scams, and just like you, I became skeptical and hesitant whenever I came across an opportunity that just seemed a bit too “perfect”.

You’ve heard the saying, “it sounds too good to be true”, and when it comes to securing a legitimate online job, you’ll encounter your share of questionable offers and hyped-up opportunities that promise you everything from “work in your P.J’s”, to “automated income as you sleep!”.

It’s your job to dissect the opportunities that you find, and uncover the true gems, the real offers and the genuine programs and assignments that will help you make a full time income online.

This all begins with setting realistic expectations. You need to separate fact from reality. It’s easy to get caught up in the dream of spending only a couple of hours a day working from your home, while making an absolute fortune for very little

There’s no such thing as “overnight riches” in the telecommuting industry, and while you really can join the ranks of successful work at home freelancers, you need to roll up your sleeves and be ready and able to do the work.

This report was designed to help you evaluate potential work at home opportunities and to give you the tools you need to be successful within the telecommuting arena.

It’s my hope that the information will help you to avoid common scams and schemes, so that you can focus on legitimate and reputable opportunities and offers that will guide you towards your dream of working from home.

Let’s begin!

clip_image001[59]Finding A Legitimate Work At Home Job

In order to be successful working from home however, you need to fully commit

to the process of securing and completing home based assignments and projects.

If you approach your work at home job search as a spare time “side project”, instead of handling it with professionalism like you would an in-house position or a regular full time job, it’s unlikely that you are going to be dedicated enough to stick to the process, much less remain consistent and on top of the projects and assignments that you are able to secure.

In truth, working at home is a very rewarding yet extremely challenging adventure. You are responsible for completing tasks, staying on schedule and making sure that you fufill client requests and obligations on time, so while you can still set your own schedule and work within your own restraints, with no supervisor or boss looking over your shoulder, being a successful telecommuter requires strict discipline and dedication.

Another important element to becoming a successful freelancer is in being able to

quickly adapt to changes in the industry.

You need to be able to instantly shift gears and change your format in order to stay competitive in the telecommuting market, and to be able to cater to a company or programs’ need for quick change in direction.

clip_image004[1]The methods that we use to complete our projects, the format that we offer, and even the methods of communicating with our clients or employers is constantly

- 5 -

Work At Home Truth http://www.Your-URL.com

clip_image001[60]changing, and in order to remain in demand, you will need to be able to keep the pace, and modify your business plan whenever required.

Throughout the years, I’ve experienced incredible high’s and dramatic low’s. There were times when I couldn’t keep up with client projects and other times where I was struggling to find enough work to maintain my business, and I’ve learned, as will you, that it’s part of the business, and something that is unavoidable, so you need to learn to adapt to changes within the telecommuting marketplace.

You should also understand the differences in being an “employee” and an “independent contractor”.

As a telecommuter, you are typically considered a work at home employee for a company or online business. This means, that you are often required to follow specific schedules and meet pre-determined deadlines, and are paid on a per project basis, hourly basis or on salary.

Quite often, the company that you work for covers a portion of your operational costs such as Internet connection or office equipment and takes deductions from your payments to cover taxes and benefits.

As a freelancer, you are working for yourself, finding your own clients, setting your own schedules and developing your own business structure.

clip_image001[61]You would be responsible for all associated costs, as well as in claiming all relevant tax deductions from running your own home based business.

clip_image004[2]Work At Home Truth http://www.Your-URL.com

When it comes to work at home jobs, where you are a paid telecommuter working for companies and clients, you can generate revenue from content development, website development and creation, as well as by offering services, such as search engine optimization, marketing, and even working as a virtual assistant.

Let’s take a closer look at just a few of the ways that you can begin to carve out your online career.

Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants are a necessity for large businesses outsourcing work who need extra 'hands on deck' to complete daily tasks and projects.

For the most part, virtual assistants are responsible for handling telephone calls relating to the company, setting up appointments, handling projects, managing task lists and quite often, are even responsible for website maintenance .

If you are thinking about getting into virtual assistant work keep in mind that the more skills and experience that you have the better your chances will be of getting a good job. You may want to take a course or work to receive certification in relevant fields to increase your qualifications and chances of landing the highest paying opportunities.

As a virtual assistant you'll need to be comfortable completing various clerical and administrative tasks without constant supervision.

clip_image001[62]- 7 -

clip_image001[63]Producing excellent work results will keep clients coming your way. A consistent flow of clients allows you to grow your work from home business and create some stability.

There are necessary tools to make your virtual assistant career excel. A stable highspeed Internet connection, reliable computer, quiet office space, standard phone line, and an all in one printer will provide you with a good start for this work from home business.

Being able to organized work tasks is another major component to the success of your virtual assistance career. Depending on the clients you choose to work with, there may be tons of tasks for you to complete.

Once you've been hired, the client expects you to produce accurate work at the scheduled deadline. Prioritizing everything will almost guarantee that you finish in time without forgetting something important.

As a virtual assistant, you're responsible for the upkeep of your business equipment. A client won't be responsible for providing you with all of the needed equipment to do your job. They expect you to be fully prepared to handle their challenging duties promptly.

Freelance Writing

To be a successful freelance writer, you will need a solid resume and a strong, professional portfolio. Your portfolio is the most important aspect of getting work, so take some time and concentrate on making yours shine.

A portfolio is a sample collection of your published and private works that potential employers or contractors can review when deciding if they would like you to work on their project.

Your portfolio is not the only part of the picture though – you need a strong resume as well. Not every employer or contractor will ask for a resume or work experience, but some may.

In any event, it is a good idea to have your writing experience written on a resume so that you can easily refer to it when needed.

When it comes to gaining experience as a freelancer, you can start off accepting low cost projects, and gradually work your way up. You will need to showcase your talents and build a loyal customer base, before you will be able to generate a full time income as a freelance writing specialist.

www.mturk.com – On this site, sponsored by Amazon.com, you can select “hits” and complete articles on specific topics for pre-set amounts of money. Articles are usually paid a few dollars for a few hundred words.

There are also online writing courses offered if that has more of an appeal for you, check out:

It will also help to join a community of writers, either through an email list or online forum.

Some forums for writers include:

You should also familiarize yourself with some general freelance writing websites. These sites are a good resource if you want to do some research or run into questions regarding your freelance writing:

www.freelancewriting.com www.absolutewrite.com www.worldwidefreelance.com http://writing-journey.com http://freelancewrite.about.com www.writersweekly.com www.aboutfreelancewriting.com

When you are practicing your writing, make sure you take time to truly review and critique your work. Revisit samples of your work from time to time to re-read and re-vamp your practice writings. As you become a more accomplished and experienced writer, your writing will vastly improve, so you can always make corrections and updates to your work.

clip_image001[66]Work At Home Scams & Schemes

To help you secure legitimate work at home opportunities, it’s important that you learn how to identify online scams and gimmicks designed to steal your time and money.

Here are some of the more popular scams, still in circulation today.

clip_image005[26]Note: While this segment of the report was created to give you a better idea as to what to look out for and how common scams are designed to work, pay careful attention to any online opportunity that requires upfront payment, or is similar to the schemes mentioned below, but may be designed a bit differently.

For example, “envelope stuffing” and “assembly jobs” can be presented quite differently but work on the same premise, where you are required to purchase a “kit”, only to discover that your returned work is always turned down or rejected, or that you are forced to recruit new customers or members and are only paid for every new sign up.

Work At Home Membership Sites & Job Databases

Each day, dozens if not hundreds, of home based job seekers scour the Internet looking for legitimate work at home opportunities.

They do their part in creating online resumes, applying within the online job banks and doing their best to stand out from the crowded arena of fellow home based job

Work At Home Truth http://www.Your-URL.com

clip_image001[67]seekers who are also looking for legitimate positions to enable them to work from the comfort of their homes.

When they fail to find instant employment, they often turn to paid work at home programs. These are websites offering claims of instant employment, pre- screened job offers and unique, all inclusive opportunities guaranteeing success to all who apply.

Sadly enough, the majority of “paid to use” job databases found all over the Internet are scams. While these websites do feature work at home jobs, applying or acquiring them is nowhere near as easy as they initially make you believe.

Scam Dissected:

Of all my years online, seeking out reputable work from home jobs, I have joined countless WAH database sites. My findings have been relatively the same with each one.

ØØ The jobs are rarely updated.

ØØ The jobs are not pre-screened and often contain business opportunities requiring an investment.

ØØ The jobs are not conclusive and contact information or accurate job descriptions are not included making it impossible to determine if it’s a position you can fill.

Work At Home Truth http://www.Your-URL.com

clip_image001[68]ØØ The jobs are often derived from free job banks, or other free resource sites and are not exclusive or unique.

ØØ Some of the more questionable work at home job sites even feature “paid jobs” based on other opportunities that they try to entice you into joining.

With so many free job databases online, you are expanding your options while saving yourself the $50 registration fee.

To help you get started, here are a few of my top resources:

http://www.Monster.com http://www.Guru.com http://www.eLance.com

The Freelance Writing Scam

If you enjoy writing, you may have tried to find a legitimate freelance writing job.

In truth, there is no shortage of freelance writing work on freelance marketplaces like www.Scriptlance.com , www.bizreef.ca, www.Project4Hire.com, www.Constant-Content.com , www.GetAFreelancer.com , and www.RentACoder.com

Work At Home Truth http://www.Your-URL.com

clip_image001[69]These sites are all highly recommended as legitimate sources for finding not only freelance writing jobs, but other work at home job offers.

Scam Dissected:

The problem comes into play when following ads on sites like CraigsList.org, or private requests from potential employers asking you to provide them with a sample. When you hand them a sample of a generic article you have written, they ask you to craft a sample article or document based on their chosen topic, so that they can see whether you are able to adapt to a specific style.

These sample requests are intended as a way for these people to gain free writing services from freelance writers and often times, does not yield a real working relationship.

When being approached regarding work samples, offer pre-written documents, and unless you are familiar with the client, be hesitant when being asked to create a custom document as a sample. 99% of legitimate inquiries will not have a problem with reviewing a sample that you have written on any topic you wish, and will not insist on custom work before hiring you.

The Rebate Processor Scam

These offers are cleverly disguised in such a way that a participant would believe that after paying the enrolment fee, they will simply process rebates from a database of existing users. They are told that no experience is necessary, no skills

clip_image006[4]Work At Home Truth http://www.Your-URL.com

clip_image001[70]are required and work is available on an unlimited basis.

The truth is, that the opportunity that is being presented is not a real rebate processing position.

What you will do however is recruit customers from various affiliate-based marketplaces and encourages them to purchase products and services from third party merchants. In order to entice customers to purchase, you will offer them a rebate, a discount given to them after they have purchased.

Your only way of making money with this opportunity is by recruiting new customers into the program!

The majority of rebate processor job offers online today, simply direct you to www.ClickBank.com , the Internet’s popular affiliate based marketplace. From there, you will choose what products you wish to promote and with limited guidance, you will be responsible for making money on your own as an affiliate.

The Paid Typing Job

Home typing jobs appear on countless websites, and range in registration fee ($49.97 - $99+).

These opportunities claim to offer home based typing positions, and cloud their offer around the highlights and benefits of what you can earn just by typing advertisements on their behalf.

clip_image004[5]Work At Home Truth http://www.Your-URL.com

Scam Dissected:

These opportunities rarely pay you for each typing project that you complete, but instead, force you to refer and recruit in order to earn a commission. Furthermore, when they do offer “per project” compensation, it often requires hours and hours of placing advertisements on classified websites and tediously registering for advertiser accounts on directories, forums, and other marketplaces in order to successfully earn money.

Worse, the pay often equates to pennies an hour, IF you are paid at all. These companies often tend to close up shop after word gets out that they are failing to pay their typists, leaving members scrambling to find another opportunity.

Do yourself a favor and focus only on legitimate paid posting and typing jobs. These are found on sites that feature paid blogging positions such as www.PayPerPost.com and www.ReviewMe.com (additional resources are available at the end of this report).

Stuffing Envelopes

“Make extra money by stuffing envelopes from home!” Advertisements for ‘at- home-envelope stuffers can be found in newspapers, online job sites, and even on what appears to be legitimate work at home directory sites. This scheme has been around since the beginning of the Internet and continues to lure in new work at home job seekers every single day.

clip_image001[71]- 17 -

Work At Home Truth http://www.Your-URL.com

clip_image001[72]Scam Dissected:

There is always a fee to get started in the envelope stuffing business. In return for this, ‘small fee’ you will most likely get instructions for placing ads just like the one you responded to.

It soon becomes clear as to what your actual “job” really is. The only way that you will ever get your money back is to recruit others into the exact same program (or should we say, “pyramid scheme”!)

Craft or Assembly Jobs

This work at home job appeals to those of us who enjoy crafts and love the thought of being paid for our creativity. Imagine! Making money just by completing simple assembly jobs, from the comfort of your own home!

But hold on, it’s not exactly what you think.

Scam Dissected:

For starters, you will almost always be required to ‘invest’ in some special equipment or supplies that aren’t going to be included in the ‘free materials’ that were promised in the original ad. This equipment or supplies can run anywhere from a few dollars to several hundred dollars. This is what the advertisers are selling! You will see that there is a no return policy for the equipment or supplies that you must purchase.... there never is.

But it gets worse. If you read the fine print attached to the advertisement, you’ll discover that you aren’t exactly going to be paid for every completed project or craft that you submit but rather that “All work must meet quality standards”.

This is where everything begins to fall apart.

No work will ever meet quality standards. Every time you send in a completed project, it will be rejected. You will buy the equipment or supplies. You will work to create the products as directed, and will carefully follow instructions yet you will never see one dime for the finished products that you send.

It gets worse. You have no legal recourse. You agreed to buy the equipment or supplies and were told that there was a ‘no return’ policy. You agreed to produce products that met ‘quality control standards’ that were not specified. You’ve been had!

Now that you are able to recognize and understand how many of the common online scams are designed to work, you’ll be able to focus on legitimate opportunities that offer real value (and payment) in exchange for your hard work.

In the next segment of this special report, I’ll provide you with my private swipe file of work at home resources, to help you secure a legitimate work at home opportunity.

Best of success living out your dream!
